11 Songs You Need To Hear This Week: Beyoncé, Blood Orange, Camila Cabello And More

Written By the interns on 07/12/2019

Featuring 10 songs not written for The Lion King.

11. Ed Sheeran - South Of The Border (Feat. Camila Cabello & Cardi B)

Sheero's new 'project' is a real mixed bag but it's hard to deny the slinky melodies of this one, delivered most convincingly by Camila Cabello. If you can get past Sheeran's bedroom talk it's a winner.

10. Beyoncé - Spirit

We all knew we were going to get an Oscar-ready ballad from Beyoncé in the midst of this whole Lion King thing didn't we? She's coming for the Ed Sheeran fanbase and once she's done she's going to drop a new album which has "bitch boy" as the first word.

9. Gallant - Crimes

Gallant has enlisted two Aussie songwriters for his latest track Crimes in Sarah Aarons and Ben Abraham. It's a winning formula too. Crimes is the most immediate single he's dropped in ages.

8. 303 - Out Here

303 are a new British girlband tapping into the mode of vintage R&B groups. Out Here is their strongest release yet with a hook that'll swirl in your head.

7. Jessica Mauboy - Blessing

It's no secret we're big fans of Jessica Mauboy's new material and she keeps the streak going with Blessings. Once again she's vocally in the pocket and also letting someone know she's a 10 and they're a 3 which is just excellent.

6. Jeida Woods - Selfless

It's hard to believe that this is Jeida Woods' debut. The Lucianblomkamp-produced cut is a stellar slice of R&B that harks back to Drake's Take Care LP.

5. Wave Racer - Summer Rain (Feat. Kwame)

Wave Racer's second cut this year sees him team-up with rapper Kwame for the first time and together they make plasticine magic. Everything Kwame drops feels like a major step forward for local rap.

4. Oscar Scheller - 1% (Feat. Lily Allen)

British songwriter and producer Oscar Scheller has enlisted Lily Allen for his new tune 1% and it turns out it's a bang-on match. As the title suggests, the song is literally inspired by waiting to get a text back from a love interest when you're low on battery but Scheller and Allen turn it into something wildly entertaining.

3. Thelma Plum - Woke Blokes

Thelma Plum has released her new album Back In Blak and she's taken a stab at the worst kind of people. The best part is they're likely to listen and have no idea it's about them. “He’s like kill the boy down the road who hurt the girl real bad unless he is my friend or plays in my favourite band,” is a truly brilliant line.

2. Blood Orange - Benzo

Blood Orange's mixtape Angel's Pulse is out today it's sounding a lot like a whole damn album. Benzo is a jazz-infused moment of bliss that allows us to hear Dev Hynes in the most minimal of settings.

1. Sampa The Great - OMG

Sampa The Great has released OMG from her forthcoming album The Return and it's an absolute smash. Sampa's journey this far has been exciting to watch. She went from being a great MC to an inspiring live performer and now she's bloomed into an artist.

OMG has arrived with a video that ushers us into this new era of Sampa. She explores her own Zambian heritage merged with modern streetwear aesthetics, giving us her tightest visual yet.
