Bon Iver are only one song away from revealing a lyric video for every track off their excellent third record 22, A Million.
Throughout the week we have seen every track gifted with lyrics videos but they're not just your run-of-the-mill lyric videos. They're symbolic masterpieces full of art by Brooklyn artist Eric Timothy Carlson in collaboration with Aaron Anderson who both worked in close consultation with Justin Vernon.
The idea to have lyric videos for each video reportedly came from Vernon, according to Carlson who sat down for an in-depth interview with Walker Art.
"I was originally a little hesitant about the lyric video concept, largely due to the quality of lyric videos in general, and because I was dreaming of an entirely abstract/ambient visual component to live with the music online, without typography," he said.
"But it was good challenge, figuring out how to do it good/weird/right, how to acknowledge the format, and how to expand the album art into this realm. They didn’t need to be explicitly narrative, and they didn’t need to live by the rules of the print material."
