Listen to Swick & Lewis Cancut's, Tkay Maidza-featuring, 'Wishes'

tkay_ryanhemsworth

Ryan Hemsworth has been dropping free songs each week from his favourite new producers and now he's releasing a compilation. The first track of that compilation is an all Aussie-affair by Swick & Lewis Cancut featuring Adelaide rapper, Tkay Maidza. Wishes is a sunshine-filled, glitchy track that takes a PC Music route in the way of its unashamed kawaii quality. Maidza sounds like we've never heard her before with slightly manipulated vocals and a style that errs more towards singing than rapping. Hemsworth is becoming quite the tastemaker.

Ryan Hemsworth & Tomggg drop 'Cream Soda'

creamsoda

A bit of fun for your Wednesday morning, served up in the form of the sugary sweet Cream Soda. Along with dropping the news of three Japan tour dates, Canadian producer Ryan Hemsworth has further proved Japan's influence on Western Electronica by releasing his latest collaboration with Japanese producer Tomggg. With the character of an 8-bit video game, the bubbly track features effervescent instrumentals and chirpy sound samples with the backing marching drum being the perfect cherry on top of the Cream Soda.

The duo's latest track is available for a free download from Soundcloud.

Ryan Hemsworth unveils Seattle producer Lucas' 'Keep U Warm'

shh008: Lucas - Keep U Warm

Ryan Hemsworth has been releasing free songs from upcoming producers every week via his Secret Songs series. The latest to emerge from that is Seattle Producer, Lucas' Keep U Warm. The track is an RnB-laced, mid-tempo number, just the way Hemsworth likes it and features noises from crickets to video game SFX. Of Lucas, Hemsworth says, "I think he's really part of this next movement that's going to be run by producers who grew up caring more about rock and R&B than dance music." The release follows Lucas' affecting remix of Hemsworth's One For Me last month. Keep U Warm can be downloaded for free below.

10 Songs You Need To Hear This Week

10songs_july18

Is it that music is getting better? Is it that we had a good week? Or is it that we’re overjoyed by the news that Adele will indeed be naming her album, 25? Whatever it is, these 10 tunes are just sounding that little bit better this week. Amongst the 10, we have the creme de la creme of hip-hop, a few triumphant comebacks and enough Ryan Hemsworth to fill our Pokedex. So go forth and check out the best 10 songs of the week. Gotta catch 'em all.

Click here for this week's Soundcloud playlist.

Kwamie Liv- comin THRU

Looking for Paper Planes without the tacky, dance-along moves? Look no further than the third offering from Danish-singer Kwamie Liv, comin THRU. There’s mellow, RnB undertones followed by a hip-hop-inspired chorus that pops like M.I.A’s hallmark track. Wanna' get down, pop-it and lock-it this weekend? Yeah, you do. Press play.

Vic Mensa- Feel That

It was always going to be a hard job following up Down on my Luck but Chicago rapper Vic Mensa has done a valiant job. We don’t publicly condone it, but if your Saturday looks anything like this video then you’ve had one helluva weekend. As for the track, it’s a hip-hop banger that lays a runaway train flow over sparse hip-hop beats.

The Drums- Magic Mountain

The Drums have gone from the beach to the mountains on this trippy comeback single. There’s a bit more noise, there’s a little bit more psychedelic but The Drums are still there at the core of it all. Stick around for the 2min 30 mark when it all gets a little bit spooky and we descend down the mountain and into the rabbit hole.

Tkay Maidza- U-Huh

Is there something in the Adelaide water? Motez, Allday and now 18-year old Tkay Maidza has taken to the stage as one of the most exciting new talents to watch in 2014. After seducing us with her catchy track Brontosaurus back in 2013, U-huh is Maidza's first single since signing with Brisbane label Dew Process - home to London Grammar, Mumford & Sons and Sarah Blasko. This track is crisp, sassy and the perfect blend of hip-hop and pop - in a way that Azealia Banks could only dream to replicate. Timed to perfection, this release comes as Tkay is set to play Splendour in the Grass next weekend, Listen Out and Big Sound in coming months. Be sure to catch her before the rest of the world eats her up!

Perfume Genius- Queen

Mike Hadreas (aka Perfume Genius) embraces his inner Freddy Mercury this week on the bold new track from his forthcoming album, Too Bright. It’s production is far denser than anything he’s done before with haunting whistles, brave percussion and a vocal that sees Perfume Genius take charge like never before. We’re not sure about the Perfume part but this one is definitely Genius.

Sinead Harnett- No Other Way (Ryan Hemsworth Remix)

Hemsworth is the guy you know and trust to do your work justice, and his re-work of London-based songstress Sinead Harnett's No Other Way is no exception. Production-wise, it is hard to fault him, serving up the perfect balance between soul, toyed melody and dancey electronica. The layered synths up the tempo of the catchy chilled-out original to produce the perfect mid-Winter pick-me-up.

Ryan Hemsworth- One For Me (Feat. Tinashe) (Lucas Remix)

*Wipes tears away*. Much Ryan Hemsworth this week, many feels. Seattle producer, Lucas does an emotional flip of Hemsworth's album cut, One For Me. Tinashe’s vocals are taken down a few notches to sound like a soulful male, while Lucas lays down keys and a steady beat. This song was already beautiful but this just takes it to another level. If you’re going through a breakup this weekend, press repeat. If not, press next.

- Walk This Way (Lido Remix)

It’s everything video games and gaming arcades on the Lido remix of ’s track, Walk This Way. It introduces a whole new element of trickling synths and skittered beats that will possibly grate you and possibly won’t. Such is the joy of the democratic nature of music.

Astronomyy - Nothin On My Mind (Bearson Remix)

the interns have got tropical fever this week from La Roux’s Trouble in Paradise and the vibes are continuing with this remix of Astronomyy’s Nothing On My Mind. Oslo House producer, Bearson has reworked the already-chilled track with, taking us from beach to beach bar.

ODESZA - Memories That You Call (feat. Monsoonsiren)

Seattle-based duo ODESZA have dropped their dreamy first track from their upcoming second album, In Return. Awash with heavenly synths accompanied by purposeful percussion, Memories That You Call is an anthem of youth; painting pictures of wayward journeys across the plains.

And here's another. We're feeling generous:

Treasure Fingers & BOSCO- Names

Brooklyn label Fools Gold is quite literally a goldmine of tunes. Their latest delivery is from Atlanta Producer Treasure Fingers and it’s a disco cross hip-hop cross house number that’s exactly what it sounds like- a perfect amalgamation of sound. He’s joined by singer/songwriter BOSCO who effortlessly goes in between rapping and singing, sassiness and sensuality. Grab someone and grind them when listening to this. It will make so much more sense. Please make sure you know the person you grab.

Ryan Hemsworth remixes Sinead Harnett's 'No Other Way'

130807-ryan-hemsworth

Ryan Hemsworth serves up the perfect balance of soul and well-crafted production in his most recent rework of London songwriter, Sinead Harnett's 'No Other Way'. The layered synths up the tempo from the original chilled track, to produce a dancey, yet thoughtful augmentation of the original.

10 Songs You Need To Hear This Week

10SONGSJUNE21

Soundtrack the weekend with 10 of our favourite songs from the week.

Jessie Ware- Tough Love

Ooh Ms.Ware knows how to tug at the heart with her vocals. She needed to switch it up from Devotion and with the help Benny Blanco, she's taken her voice into the clouds, sounding airy and whimsical.

[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/jessieware/tough-love[/soundcloud]

Billie Black- I Waited For You

This one is the gold gem find of the week. Black has he utmost grace in her delivery of this slinky, down-tempo number. It's a self-assured debut that comes with a conceptually strong video. That chorus is a hidden treat that just grows with every listen.

[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/billie-black/billie-black-i-waited-for-you[/soundcloud]

Broods- Mother and Father

New Zealand duo, Broods, stirred crowds when they supported Ellie Goulding this month and they're further proving on this one that they can please both a mainstream and commercial audience. Mother and Father is a delicious slice of emotional synth-pop.

[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/broods/broods-mother-father[/soundcloud]

M.O- Dance on my Own

Girl bands are back in a big way but don't don your sporty spice Adidas, these guys have the swagger of TLC. Dance on my Own is a polished piece of pop with cascading vocal harmonies and sassed-up melody.

[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/momusicofficial/dance-on-my-own-mistajam-intro-teaser-version[/soundcloud]

Guerre- Tuk

Tuk is the second offering off Guerre’s forthcoming album, Ex Nihilo, and it’s a flittering, neo-tribal exploration that features his whispy vocals running effervescently alongside. According to Guerre, the song is the most pop on the album and it’s him “trying to channel all that Pharrell produced Justin Timberlake stuff”.

[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/yespleaserecords/guerre-tuk[/soundcloud]

D/R/U/G/S- Overcome (Feat. Fe)

Manchester producer, D/R/U/G/S channels the tropical vibe that has been doing the round of late on his latest single, Overcome. It’s from his upcoming self-titled record and features some glorious vocals by Leo Duncan. If Summer was coming, we’d be all over this one, but for now it will have to do as a distant reminder of the summer that was.

Mike Will Made It- Buy The World (Feat. Future, Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar)

Miley’s producer is starting to make a name for himself as a soloist but he’s recruited hip-hop royalty on this one. Buy The World is classic Mike Will. It’s laid back, with a big, fat beat that keeps proceedings beefed-up. Future and Kendrick Lamar sound as good as ever while Lil Wayne continues to prove he’s on a sharp decline. Oh well, two out of three ain’t bad.

Ryan Hemsworth- Every Square Inch

Created in collaboration with Japanese producer,  Qrion, ‘Every Square Inch’ is like sour skittles bouncing their way down a techno-coloured rainbow. Straight A Hemsworth with its vulnerable highs, bursting over defiantly get-low lows, ‘Every Square Inch,’ has us excited for the release of his October LP, Guilt Trips.

[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/ryanhemsworth/every-square-inchwith-qrion[/soundcloud]

Lil Silva- Mabel

Lil Silva has done a brilliant job as the producer for BANKS, but he's also doing some stunning stuff on his own. Mabel is the first track off his EP of the same name which is due to be released 4 August. It's a deep-base, layered beauty that is likely to aim right for the gut.

[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/lilsilva/lil-silva-mabel[/soundcloud]

Aaron- Strong

It's not everyday you get a polished debut pop song dropped at your feet, but it happened this week. London singer-songwriter, Aaron takes a swipe for the pop crown with this mammoth, synthed-up chorus. Look out Sheezus.
