Skrillex and Diplo (Jack U) drop 'Take U There' featuring Kiesza

takeuthere

Kiesza has been busy of late. She's already had a massive hit, Hideaway, and has followed up with the equally stunning, Giant In My Heart and No Enemiesz. Now she's featured on the new single, Take U There, by Jack U which is a collaboration between Skrillex and Diplo. The pair have been teasing this track for a while and it lives up to the hype. It's a tempo-raising anthem that is equal parts melodic and thrashing. It actually has the potential to become the pair's biggest commercial hit which,  given their success already, is saying something.

the interns' Saturday mix #6

saturdaymix2 It's that time of the week again. You guessed it, it's Saturday! And what better way to celebrate than with the delivery of our newest bundle of joy, the intern's 6th Saturday Mix. Make sure your iPod is charged, your glass is full and you've kicked your parents out of the house for the weekend because Saturday's don't come around that often...

Diplo - Random White Dude: Music to make you sweat

If you have ever seen Major Lazer live, then you would understand. Before you can even yell "Diplo!" you find that you have your shirt off, waving it around in the air and you have sweated out more than most marathon runners would in a lifetime. It's time to turn the heat up, cause things are about to get a little down and dirty and you have no choice in the matter. F&*k Winter. Luen - August Mixtape: Music for the ladie$

When was the last time you heard Khia's My Neck, My Back? What about Eve's Let Me Blow Ya Mind? Luen has set you up with a plethora of female-led tracks you have come to know and love, but with her own signature chiller vibe. While the oestrogen may be flowing, boys don't back down, this Sydney up-and-comer mixes an hour of recognisable hits which you will enjoy as well, I'm sure. [soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/luenmusic/mixtape-4-the-ladies[/soundcloud]

Broncho: Music to give you all the feels

Think Love Song Dedications, but on steroids. This is sure to fill that gaping hole in your love life, or at least give you the warm and fuzzies. Time to grab your lover, partner or teddy bear and cosy up to an hour of feelings, and some sweet classics. [soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/i-d-online-1/broncho-music-to-garden-to[/soundcloud]

Milo and Otis - TomorrowWorld: Music to annoy the neighbours

So you have shitty neighbours who steal your car parking spot, they have a crying one year old baby, or they feel the need to dob you into the cops every Saturday night. Well it's pay back time. You are going to borrow your mates best sub-woofer, and engineer the best bass sound system you neighbourhood has ever seen. Turn it right up, cause it is time to unleash this mix....they ain't going to be sleeping tonight.

John Barera - FACT Mix 456: Music to own the side walk

Today is a good day. No wait, today is a great day. And what do you do on great days? You strut. You just skip about town, with a grin the size of a small country and strut that oozes confidence. No one is going to get you down, and this mix is sure to amp up your contentedness with life, and quite possibly elongate your strides!

the interns' Saturday Mix #5

saturdaymix2

The weekend has inevitably rolled around once again and we're borrowing a line from Vic Mensa as our motto this weekend, "fuck that, get down". If you're feeling down on your luck, then the best mixes of the week are sure to get you "down" wherever you may be. Couch-side, club-headed or dance floor-situated, we've got all moods covered this week.

AO Beats- The Ripe Guest Mix: Songs to beat lock-out

AO Beats is an American producer to keep a firm eye on. He founded the future bass collective, Moving Castle, whose Soundcloud is filled with skittering, RnB-flavoured gold and AO Beats is responsible for much of that. This mix is made for those that stick around late enough in the night to get your second wind. It's 3am, drink-service has stopped (if you're in Sydney :'( ) and the only thing left to do is hit the dance-floor. In it, he throws down his own remixes of Foster The People and Bobby Valentino while also including the GANZ flip of our homegrown girl, Alison Wonderland's Want U. It's a schizophrenic affair full of chipmunk vocals and tempo-raising 808s.

Diplo and Friends - La Vegas: Music to gamble to

While we do condone the action of  excessive gambling, everyone now and again we all get that little urge to put all of our weekly wages down on red.  Who could blame you - the bright lights, fancy drinks and noticeable lack of time and space -it's time to suit up, grab your 5 best mates and head to that flashy big building in the centre of the city, the Casino. Diplo, is as suave as it gets, and his recent Las Vegas mega-mix is set to get your blood pumping, your alter-ego throbbing and those casino chips flowing.

Feed Me: Music to trump your gym work-out

Press play and prepare to move. Playing most of their own head-bangers, Feed Me serve up an all original mix which is sure to make you burn off any hamburgers you ate drunkenly last weekend. Screw the gym and there overpriced yearly membership fees, this is all the motivation you need to pump out a solid sweat session.

Mr One Hundred- Hi Tech Soca: Music to Carnival to

Any mix that manages to slot in Jason Derulo and Outkast alongside David Guetta and underground jungle, techno and juke jams is one worth listening to and that's exactly what London via Chicago producer, Mr One Hundred has delivered. While we're not the biggest fans of Jason Derulo's ridiculous track Wiggle, kicking off this mix with a high-energy, dancehall-flavoured bootleg of the track is the perfect mandate for the rest of the mix. From there on it's relentless, turning the carnival vibes up to 11 with tracks by Gant Man and Kes assisitng. Pick this one when you've still got plenty left in the tank and want to go explore the weird and wacky. This ain't no mix for the faint-hearted.

Ibiza BlaKKout - Episode 2: Music to Disco Stu to

Hey ladiesssss....yeah that's right, you have been seduced and you didn't even realise it. Was the flared jeans that caught your eye, or the mad twirl I just pulled on the dance floor? Disco Stu is in the house, and we have to show a little respect to this living dance-floor legend the only way we know how. Dance. D.A.N.C.E.

Shimmy to the left, and shimmy to right. Time to hustle.

10 Songs You Need To Hear This Week

10songs_1Aug

For those of you still coping with post-Splendour depression, you're not alone. As such we’ve made sure we’ve included no Splendour 2014 acts in this week's 10 Songs You Need To Hear so you can deal with it in the best way possible- denial.

Azealia Banks- Heavy Metal and Reflective

It’s been a damn long time since Azealia Banks became the most hyped rapper of 2012 with 212. In that time she’s fought every other artist on the planet, chucked dummy spits at shows and parted ways with her record label Universal. Heavy Metal and Reflective is the first we’ve heard from her since the split and it’s a bit of alright. She’s aggressive and confident over an industrial beat that is a bit of a runaway train.

FKA Twigs - Pendulum

Pendulum is the second track to come from FKA Twigs’ forthcoming record LP1 and is further proof that it will be one of the best of the year. As the title suggests it’s a gently undulating track bound by cascading beats and sporadic vocals. There are definitely similarities between this one and Water Me although this one feels like it’s got more melody to attach itself too. Go home everyone, Twigs wins 2014.

Laura Welsh- Bound

It’s hard to believe, given the attention it’s received, that Kanye’s Bound 2 never received any chart love. Even stranger when you think that Sigma’s drum n’ bass version of it, Nobody To Love, has commercial radio in raptures. One version that will rightfully have you in raptures is this cover by Laura Welsh. Taking the main hook, she transforms Bound into a smokey, love song that’s perhaps one of the most poignant things she’s done to date.

Lil Silva- Don’t You Love (Feat. BANKS)

BANKS and Lil Silva have already worked with each other on several occasions, the most successful being BANKS’ Goddess. This dark, skittering Lil Silva cut provides the perfect playground for BANKS to lay down her brooding vocals. We don’t get to hear her though until the last third with a vocal sample occupying much of the earlier stage, helping it remain more of a Lil Silva song than a BANKS one.

Thrupence- Don’t You Mind

Future Classic has their finger on the pulse when it comes to snapping up the best electronic talent cc: Flume, Jagwar Ma or Wave Racer. It comes as welcome news then that they’ve snapped up 23 year-old maestro, Thrupence. Don’t You Mind comes from his debut album Lessons which will be his first release on Future Classic. It samples blues singer Son House’s Grinnin In Your Face, laying it atop a retro hip-hop beat that shows Thrupence’s clearly extensive music knowledge and his finessed production.

Black Vanilla - Smacks

Black Vanilla is a Sydney-based supergroup of sorts. It's made up of Marcus Whale (Collarbones), Lavurn Lee (Guerre) and Jarred Beeler (Mareseilles) and separately they've released some pretty spectacular material. As a trio, however, they offer up something very different- RnB/Hip-Hop flavoured tunes that are arguably more straight-forward than any of their solo material. Case in point, their new track, Smacks. Smacks really have one intention- to make people dance- and it does so effortlessly. Beginning with what could be confused as a banjo it enters territory of deep, throbbing bass with a voice saying "are you willing to give in". It harks back to the days of Beastie Boys and Basement Jaxx and is a fresh take on the 90s nostalgia genre.

[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/blackvanilla-1/smacks[/soundcloud]

Fantastic Fantastic - Houses

This is the second song to feature from funk-pop duo since Never Enough and it further verifies Fantastic Fantastic as a fun, bright addition to the world of music. Sunny synths and licking guitars combined with softly-spoken, rapid vocals force you to take those firmly-planted feet right off the floor.

[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/sofantasticfantastic/houses-1[/soundcloud]

cln - Dayum

Brisbane-born cln (formerly known as Callan Alexander) set tongues and ears wagging back when his EP’s lead single, Better Than, reached no.1 on Hype Machine in the matter of days. cln has now released his entire Sideways EP, with Dayum as one of the unheard singles. The track is peppered with Oriental-inspired instruments, held together with lulling synths with your focus broken every now and then by the almost-unwelcome vocal: ‘Dayum!’

[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/callanalexander/cln-dayum-1[/soundcloud]

Chance The Rapper- Wonderful Everyday: Arthur

Probably the biggest treat of the week was this flip of the Arthur theme song by Chance The Rapper. He’s been playing it at a few live shows but this recorded version which pulls in Jessie Ware and Wyclef Jean is definitely more affecting. It treads through gospel, hip-hop and soul ending with a stomping beat that takes it straight to church. You’d be forgiven for shedding a nostalgic tear or two.

[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/chancetherapper/everyday-wonderful-arthur[/soundcloud]

Diplo & Alvaro - 6th Gear (feat. Kstylis)

Ready to get a little bit low with a bit of dutty dancing? Self-proclaimed ‘random white dude’ Diplo, this week released a mixtape of his most popular singles, remixes and a few new ones as well. 6th Gear is one of those new ones and sees Diplo traverse trap and dancehall genres. It’s all a bit chaotic as you would expect from a Diplo track erring more towards Major Lazer’s style.

[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/maddecent/diplo-alvaro-6th-gear-feat?in=maddecent/sets/diplo-random-white-dude-be-everywhere-1[/soundcloud]

And one more for good luck (...and because we can't count)

Porter Robinson - Flicker

Porter is once again showing is love for all things Japanese on Flicker, the fourth track to be released from Worlds. A Japanese sample is sliced atop an epic, cinematic instrumental that is synth-heavy, bass-heavy and altogether climatic. It sounds a bit like the final challenge of a video game and as such rounds out our 10 songs for this week in fine style.

Why you need to be friends with Pharrell

Kermit Cintron vs Walter Mathysse

Turning 41 just last week, Pharrell Williams is a multi-Grammy award-winning, Oscar-nominated, TIME’s most influential people, chart topping superstar producer, singer and songwriter and the most popular guy in school music. Showing no signs of slowing down, this mega-producer is hot property and if it is not already hideously obvious, here a few reasons why we all need to get chummy with Pharrell.

He has seen Daft Punk without their helmets.

Actually, let us rephrase that. He has seen Daft Punk, period. Which is more than most of us will be able to say in our lifetime. Plus he has bragging rights to some of the French duo’s best new hits, “Lose Yourself to Dance” and that relatively minor sensation, 'Get Lucky'.

Kermit Cintron vs Walter Mathysse

His fashion sense is out of this world.

With his own signature Vivienne Westwood hat, Pharrell’s style evolution has been fearless and effortlessly trendsetting (and adorably goofy) over the years. He is also the co-founder of two clothing brands, and has his own Louis Vuitton jewellery line.

You can’t say the guy hasn’t got game, wearing this to the Oscars.

Picture 2 - Pharrell

He is 41 years old, and we are totally cool with that.

This Benjamin Button of the music world truly gets better with age. No really, this guy is immortal. He doesn’t look a day past 25.

Kermit Cintron vs Walter Mathysse

If he had a party, everyone would come.

Pharrell has worked with literally everyone in the industry, whether it is singing for Daft Punk or Robin Thicke, or producing for Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Kelis, Britney, Lupe Fiasco, Justin Timberlake, Usher or Frank Ocean.

Coachella 2014 saw Pharrell bring the largest posse on stage, both weekends. Gwen Stefani, Nelly, Snoop Dogg, Diplo, Tyler the Creator, Usher, Busta Rhymes, Rapper T.I, Pusher T and Jay-Z! Heck, even Lorde and Haim were up there dancing at one point with Beyoncé cheering fiercely on the sidelines.

As it seems his peers, just like his fans, genuinely admire and adore him.

He probably owned most of your high school iTunes library.

Recognise any of these babies? Pharrell produced, wrote, co-wrote or featured in all of them.… and they were fricken' awesome.

I’m a slave 4 U (Britney Spears), Rockstar (N.E.R.D), Work it out (Beyoncé), Senorita (Justin Timberlake), Hot in Herre (Nelly), Milkshake (Kelis), Hollaback Girl (Gwen Stefani), Drop it like it’s hot (Snoop Dog)…..the list goes on.

His second solo album, 'Girl' was released this year. His first in eight years!

Kermit Cintron vs Walter Mathysse

“Women are a phenomenal force in my life and in my career" and "the cornerstone of existence",  Pharrell spoke in media conference earlier this year. He went on to envisage a future world in which "75% of it is run by women … and I want to be on the right side of it."

So the general consensus is that Pharrell has a perfectly healthy, un-creepy appreciation for girls.

Whether it's the charming jungle beat of 'Lost Queen', the cheeky disco groove of 'Hunter' or the punchy opener 'Marilyn Monroe', this album definitely offers up a little somethin’ somethin’ for everyone. He has even enlisted friends (more friends!!), Miley Cyrus, Kelly Osbourne, Hollywood’s hottest composer Hans Zimmer, Justin Timberlake, Timberland and vocals from Daft Punk to lend a hand, just because he can - marking an exciting step forward for the producer in 2014.

And I dare you not to dance to this.

Then there’s this…

Oprah. Pharrell crying. It’s all too much.

What a guy.

 Oh, and this…
