Awful Records’ ABRA had us excited with last year’s project Rose and has just continued to make us fall in love her own track Sick Girl, an iLoveMakonnen collab and an Empress Of remix. Now she’s eyeing her debut EP PRINCESS and has hit us with a track from that record, CRYBABY.

CRYBABY is centred around that tinny, throwback percussion that’s become a trademark of hers but it’s also her most upbeat track to date, taking on the sort of tempo that Janet Jackson would shine on. ABRA shines too, laying down an unpredictable but addictive top line. Her vocals are sultry and subtle as she uses every part of her vocal register.

If this is the first time you’re hearing ABRA you may need to go back through her catalogue to get a better understanding of what you’re in for but you’ll eventually come to the realisation that this is forward-thinking, innovative R&B music.

The PRINCESS EP is out 15th July. See the tracklist below.
