The Mix: July 2015

Written By Sam Murphy on 08/05/2015

Each month plenty of music comes our way and often it sticks around it our heads for a long time but too often it fades away into the atmosphere. The Mix is our way of cataloguing each month and giving a snapshot of some of the songs that best defined that period of time.

July 2015 - a month that will be forever tainted by the fact that Frank Ocean didn't drop the damn album. All us boys (and girls) have cried a river over him but there was also plenty of good stuff happening in July.

Tame Impala released their brilliant third album Currents ushering in a much cleaner, more melodic sound. Years & Years dropped their mammoth pop album Communion around the same time Disclosure finally unveiled their second collaboration with Sam Smith, Omen. Hip-hop made a massive splash this month with new albums from Future and Meek Mill, the latter of whom spent the back half of the month feuding with Drake. That was beaten only by Run The Jewels who finally released the first full offering from Meow The Jewels.

It was a bit of a mixed-up month with classic hip-hop released alongside sugary electronic tunes while the charts were dominated by Lost Frequencies cringe-worthy Are You With Me. As such, this mix is a bit of a mixed bag - a collection of the most immediately exciting tracks released spanning pop, hip-hop, R&B and indie rock.
