The music scene in Sydney is bursting with talent, but between the plethora of international acts and growing number of lesser known artists performing each week, it can be tricky to choose where to spend your time and cash. Here at the interns, we make it our mission to fit in as much music into each week as humanly possible. This week marks the start of Vivid LIVE so there’ll be plenty of music and light working together to get around!

Squarepusher
Friday 22nd May @ Sydney Opera House

squarepusher
How Much: $49.00

Squarepusher is considered a bass maximalist whose live shows explore ‘the hallucinatory, the nightmareish and the brutally visceral capacities of electronic music’. If you’re not completely freaked out by how that sounds, it’s well worth checking him out live this Friday night in what is only his second ever performance in Sydney. Check out the below for a bit more of an idea of what to expect by this guy who typifies what Vivid LIVE is all about. Tickets also here.

Lurch & Chief
Friday 22nd May @ Newtown Social Club
lurch_chief
How Much: $15.00

Lurch & Chief are hard to pin down in terms of the style of music they make. After debuting on Triple J unearthed, they’ve kind of established a very cool indie-psych vibe. They’re currently touring in support of their sophomore EP titled Breath which has recently burst onto airwaves. Tickets on the door.

The Jungle Giants
Saturday 23rd May @ Oxford Art Factory

The-Jungle-Giants

How Much: $33.95
The Jungle Giants are touring the country this May in support of their recently new single Every Kind Of Way. The new track is the first off their still untitled second album that we’ve been assured is on the way, so expect teasers and a whole bunch of unreleased material; as well as some old favourites. Tickets from here.

The Funkoars
Saturday 23rd May @ The Basement
LEAD-PRESS-SHOT1111
How Much: $24.30
After four albums, one EP and DVD, the Funkoars have well-established themselves as one of the top live performances on the Aussie hip-hop scene. Known for their witty and satirical lyrics and accompanied by the production team behind the Hilltop Hoods and Seth Sentry, The Funkoars return on to the live stage for a Vivid performance and on the cusp of the release of their forthcoming fifth album. Tickets available here.

The Drones
Sunday 24th May @ Sydney Opera House
